I play and watch soccer, mostly the Portland Thorns and Arsenal, and of course the World Cup every four years. Here is a soccer-centric view of my bio
- I signed off on the 50th graduate degree I advised (PhD and MS) the year Arsenal won the Premier League for the 14th time.
- The AI PhD and MS programs at Oregon State University were launched the year before the Thorns won their third NWSL title.
- The robotics PhD and MS programs at Oregon State University were launched the year Germany won its fourth world cup.
- I became a full Professor the year Spain won its first world cup.
- I arrived at Oregon State University a few months after Italy won its fourth world cup.
- I started working at NASA the year before France won its first world cup, and while I was there, Arsenal won the Premier League without losing a single match.
- I received my PhD from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Texas the year Germany won its third European Championship in the first major international final decided by a golden goal.
